MOR WARES

Organic wearables.

Hey guys! Apologies for the slight radio silence here on my blog, I've been experiencing a wee bit of writers block as it goes... I hate writing when it feels forced, and I know you guys are definitely not stupid and can tell when I'm forcing words out, it’s yuk and not pretty!

Anyway, today is not one of those days! I am popping on here today as we recently had IWD (International woman's day). I didn't post much on the day, apart from one post on my instagram account, the post was about how it's ok not to be as strong as everyone seemed to be making out we are all the time! I really wanted to tie in a recent collaboration I worked on with two brands that to me really represent female empowerment and wonderful women! Be it IWD or any other day it is so important to rejoice, support and join forces with our fellow sisters around the globe.

MOR wares is an independent organic clothing brand based in Bude, Cornwall. The founder of the brand is Jo Pitfield and she has some very strong principles and values that she believes are fundamental footnotes within her brand and also her blog too. Jo is on a mission to help ladies become modern manifesters! She does this by inspiring action and positive lifestyle change, through ideas such as wellness and creativity in her writing of blog posts which can be found here

https://www.morwares.com/blogs/live-free-journal

Jo also beautifully embroiders inspiring slogans and motifs on to luxurious organic clothing for her brand MOR wares. The results are clean and crisp designs that are trendy with understated empowerment to them to. They rock!

My favourite of the MOR wares designs has to be the creatrix tee. A creatrix?! I hear you ask! Well, Jo has kindly written all about her inspiration behind the creatrix all on her blog, which I would massively encourage you to read as it’s fantastic. But! In short “a creatrix is a female who creates, one who brings forth.” I just love that so much, as I feel we are all creatives... Creators of art, food, poetry and children amongst so many wonderful things. We all have a creatrix inside of us and we all should encourage others to explore that aspect of themselves! Who knows you could potentially awaken a new found flair.

Jo has many beautiful designs on her website including tee shirts and crew necks. They are made from the softest organic Cotten they feel so silky to wear. Please take note too! For every purchase made, profits from that purchase will go towards the plantation of new trees. Jo is truly doing wonderful things.

The jewellery in these images is by another Cornish lady who is smashing female empowerment goals, Jordan Lily designs. Jordan makes stunning silver jewellery in her cute little studio here, in the Kern. Jordan Lily is a self taught silversmith and only launched her business last year! So go and give her IG account some support here -https://www.instagram.com/jordanlilydesigns/

I originally contacted Jordan about the shoot as I A - wanted to find an up and coming Cornish silversmith to collaborate with, and B - because I felt she already had a strong female empowerment vibe going on! She sure proved me right too! Jordan actually created a couple of new pieces especially for this shoot as she explains...

“My designs are largely inspired by simplicity, geometric shapes and minimalist forms. I really enjoyed adding a feminist twist to my hand stamped rings for this shoot. These rings read, “feminist”, “fierce” and “see the good”, important affirmations to live by in a world that is constantly projecting fear. I believe that anything that sends out a positive message, and empowers women is great because good things happen when women support women. I love the quote by G. D. Anderson: “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger, women are already strong, it’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.”

I adore that quote at the end, and strongly believe we are all strong in our own ways and do not others to affirm this. Keep doing what you’re doing and why not try and explore the inner creatrix in you.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank both of the brands we worked with on this shoot, they have both been amazing throughout! Also thanks to my friend, Sarah of Checkered Photography for always bringing my ideas to life.

THE COCONUT BEE

Hey lovelies! This week I have been trying out the lovely products from The Coconut Bee...

FullSizeRender.jpg

The Coconut bee are a Cornish independent skin care & hair care brand with a love for the sea and the surf. They have a passion for organic, chemical free products and all ingredients are fully sustainably sourced, which I think is great! What is even more amazing are the incredible aromas coming from these products! They are just sooo fresh.

Teehee! So yeh, I’ve been using these products since the end of last week so that’s five days now. My skin feels super soft and my brittle hair ends have massively improved! Which is definitely what I’m most pleased about.

  • So... With the hair oil I am applying two pumps to towel dried hair and one pump to totally dry hair. I rub the oil into my palms and apply mostly to the ends, I find it can make my roots a little greasy if I add too much of the product so close to my scalp. Please also bare in mind that my hair is incredibly thick! So, if your hair is of a thinner variety I wouldn’t add so much... But that also means your product will last a lot longer - happy days.
  • Lip balm... pretty self explanatory! Just make sure you are re-applying throughout the day to keep your smackers really moisturised. I struggle a lot with my lips this time of year, they are always super cracked which doesn’t look very healthy at all! So I am constantly applying this balm, it’s also fab for wind protection (where my lips suffer the most). I always apply before and after a surf.
  • The avocado and shea body butter is to die for! It’s so rich and so thick it kinda feels like applying pudding to your skin! Dry skin, my knees always seem to dry up some how? Not sure if that’s just me?... but this product is perfect for any dry skin as it’s super nourishing and extremely gentle. The whole range smells absolutely amazing too, very fresh and natural, perfect for a morning skin & hair care routine.

I would massively urge anyone to support a local independent and give these beautiful products a whirl, you will not be disappointed! Massively proud to be supporting the Coconut Bee! Use code MATILDA10 at the checkout for some lovely discount!

TIDE UP BOX

Plastic free - brilliant boxes ♻️

So I have been lucky enough to try out a fantastic plastic free product called Tide up box. You may have seen other brands creating ‘care packages’ usually via monthly subscriptions. Tide up box is exactly that, but tailored to the ocean lovers! Coastal dwellers and mermaids alike. So if you have a love affair with the ocean this is the care package for you!! Below in my video, Hebe and I will talk you through our box and show you the wonderful products we received.

The folks at Tide up box have also been kind enough to offer you all a discount code for 10% off, use code MATILDA10 at the checkout! If I were you I would opt for a monthly subscription! That way you get a regular surprise drop of the ocean right to your door.

Apologies for my sniffly nose and nasal voice! Yes I have a cold...

Thanks for viewing guys and please show Tide up box some support as they are doing great things! Hopefully more businesses will follow in their plastic free venture. This is my first EVER video and as you can tell I am a little nervous and do repeat myself... several times!

Boodyful fitness

So like every other millennial I decided this new year I would really make an effort to work on my fitness. I love a challenge and for me, fitness is definitely that. I wouldn’t say I’m massively unfit, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy going for a surf or getting out for a mammoth doggy stomp with Hebe. My fitness journey is going to be about refinement, toning and cardio.

I think the best way to get you up and exercising  is incorporating what you love doing (as long as this isn’t eating lots of cake!) it massively helps with motivation. So for me, I love getting outside - being in and around the sea or just on the beach.

Since I started surfing a couple of summers ago I have always been encouraged to practice yoga, the stretching, core strength and posture that is incorporated in yoga are hugely beneficial for surfers! I have been practicing yoga on and off for the last two years and I do absolutely love it - I love the mindfulness that comes with practise along with the strength I have gained. I would massively encourage anyone to give yoga a try!

So I have been getting down to the beach and enjoying some of my fitness outside, which is so invigorating, for the mind and the body.

As I have been trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle I thought this was important when choosing which activewear to support in my journey. I spent some time researching different brands which is when I found Boody wear, an ethical and sustainable clothing brand specialising in bamboo material. They use the bamboo to create their material as bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants and is massively sustainable, not only this but the fibers create amazingly soft and stretchy material which is perfect for my current fitness regime, which incorporates a lot of yoga stretches and poses.

One Long Month On

January, wasn't that just the longest month ever? I'm glad we got through it alive and now I'm excited and ready to tackle the lovey-dovey month that is Feb.

Breakfasts have changed too

Breakfasts have changed too

If you are an Instagram follower of mine, you will know that I'm a sucker for fresh starts and mixing up my day to day life, soo (naturally) like most people, at the beginning of the month I set myself some goals and made some lifestyle changes! During the next few posts I am going to reflect on my progress... be it triumphs or failures. Eek! This post is going to focus on my diet change.

So guys, the first change I wanted to make was my diet. Cutting meat out out of my diet completely. A big old dealio for some, but being honest with you since being raised a veggie I have always had an up and down relationship with eating meat. From overconsumption and dirty cravings including eating ham out of a packet! To being repulsed at mince meat and retching at the sight of a throbbing lump of steak. Gross.

So, I've taken it easy so far and have been relying on the well-known meat substitute brands to make up the core of our dishes. It's slightly more of a challenge for me as I am the cook in our household and try to keep my partner Gavin fit, full and happy with our (my) decision to go veggie. Gavin has always been a meat eater and always had a loving relationship with eating meat - coming from a pretty basic meat and two veg background.

That's Gav on the left there looking rather windswept!!

That's Gav on the left there looking rather windswept!!

I would say we have had a very successful first month. I have loved getting in the kitchen and mixing up our weekly dinners, it has been fun and adventurous and we've had some damn tasty dishes! I will post some images in this post of some of the meals I've created this month and feel free to message me for recipes. I always share what I'm cooking on my Instagram stories too. Oh another thing I may have forgotten to mention is that there has been a slight comprise Gavin and I made, that being once a week (at most) we will have one sustainably caught fishy dish. Luckily for us we live in a seaside town and have fresh locally caught fish very easily accessible to us, for now I am happy with this compromise and totally agree with the term, one step at a time.

So we've talked about the triumphs now let's talk fails!

I would be liar if I told you there hasn't been any meat consumption this month. I am only human and naturally humans make mistakes, unless you're  a super human in which case - fair play. So my first major slip up was a hurried morning running late for work and desperate to get a quick breakfast fix... rushing into Costa and I ordered a coffee and made the last-minute decision to grab a breakfast roll from the counter, "this too please" totally not thinking about it... left with my warmed breakfast roll and stuffed a bite into my mouth and then I realised, shit! Of course this is meat, rubbish cheap meat at that. I was genuinely gutted with my mistake but not ashamed as this was an honest slip up. My mind was busy and I was in a rush. I wasn't too hard on myself but did feel upset with my first slip up.

So listen lovelies, if you're thinking of making some diet changes I would totally encourage it! It's been fun going veggie, creating new dishes and trying new things - makes dinner time i n t e r e s t i n g... if you're like me and get stuck in ruts about what to cook! Don't be hard on yourself and make mistakes, you'll learn from them (hopefully) and begin to make more changes to your lifestyle to avoid making the same slip ups again. Research - there are so many blogs where people are sharing their dinner time ideas and now there's another one, mine! Looking to the future I want to cut down on the meat substitutes and create more interesting meals from scratch. So stay tuned and I'll continue to share my vegetarian journey with whoever wants to join!!

Take care guys x
